Jose* spent years in his career as a shoe designer. But then he retired and he and his wife Linda* chose a radically new direction. They decided to move to a remote village in the jungle to serve the Lord and share His Good News. The area they moved to was in the same region where their daughter and her husband served together with their children. The only way to get in and out of either of these locations is by one of our airplanes.
Jose and Linda stayed for ten years ministering among the people of this village, being supported in ministry by Asas de Socorro. They persevered despite losing their daughter to cancer three years ago, and then Linda facing her own battle with cancer and surviving.
And then the Yameh* people in a neighboring village began to recognize the value of education and see what God was doing where Jose and Linda lived. They had seen another village recently put in the enormous amount of work necessary to clear and level the jungle to build an airstrip and construct a school so they might have the government support needed for education in their community. But they wanted a Bible teacher as well, so they invited Jose!
Jose accepted their invitation and, over the course of the next year, started making visits to this village, preaching, teaching and building a small house. And then Jose and Linda arrived on an Asas plane with their suitcases and some basic household items. They had come to stay. We don’t know the end of this story yet, but we do know that God continues to be at work among the Yameh people as Jose and Linda share about God’s love. And we are excited to be a part of that story, too! Would you like to join us?
